FOOD. The diverse food is definitely the highlight of Penang. Not so much the beach at Tanjung Bungah though - the motorboats stir up the very soft soil and the waters are not clear to swim in. Treated ourselves to a luxury dinner at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort's Ferringhi Grill - unforgettable experience!! We enjoyed very much the Ikan Goreng (deep fried fish) at Restoran Nasi Padang Minang - the crispy fish is covered in caramelised crispy onions, and stuffed with sambal and onions too. We paired it with refreshing Air Limau (Lime juice). For tea, after a long walk around George Town in the hot sun, we went for the Cendol (shaved ice in syrup). Here's to eating more in Penang!
Not so crowded any more. Excellent staff in Sam’s Indian clothes shop on Penang Road! Grab works well.. Penangites very friendly. Mug Shot on Chulia does great coffee and excellent croissants. Seven Terraces set dinner was, as usual, excellent but dining room staff not quite so professional. FYI, booking.com, we hardly count as a ‘young couple’ since we are in our 70s
In and around China town, especially Armenian street is a great place to spend some time. The street art is great to see and is a challenge to find all of the paintings. Grab a free map from the hotel or information centre & start looking. Penang hill is also a must, this is a great half day tour for a small price. The hop on hop off bus is a great way to see the city as well so you can get off for as long as you like & hop black on the bus whenever you please. There is one every 15 minutes. The Beer Factory near Times Square is a great restaurant with excellent food & a great happy hour all day. The best bar in Georgetown is one called The Barfly. It is opposite the Hotel NEO+ & is filled with locals & tourists which makes it a great atmosphere. Opens around 4:30 till 2am.
Famous in YouTube but in fact nothing much to see. The most decent place to visit is the Gurney Plaza where you can eat decently. The place is clean and with different choice of food. The Gurney drive food street market is terrible. No good food there. I recommend to visit the Penang Hill which I think is one of the best attractions. In compare to Kuala Lumpur George Town is left very much to be desired. You have everything in Kuala Lumpur no need to go to George Town.
My favourite place in Malaysia, have been to Batu Ferringhi four times now. Some high end hotels and budget with plenty in between. Love walking the beach with no hassle, just beware of jellyfish if you go in the warm sea. Food in Penang is first rate, the food courts are amazing value, and I love to shop for local antiques and gifts.
Street food is the best and lots of variety to select. Restaurants pricing very reasonable and good. Not must shopping to do except Penang hill tour and free City bus ride.
As part of all Penang was as expected facilities and nature are entwined in a way you enjoy hills and beaches added to good Grab servicies and good food in many chain hotels.Travelling by bus from Kuala Lumpore was good and affordable
Penang island's George town is a lovely & lively town with lots of temples, shops & street foods. Every corner of the town is with something exciting and walking around will be really worthy. There is no much traffic & it is a relaxing town. Do not forget to look for George town's street arts. And if you have enough time, visit to the Penang hills will be really worth!
Lots of foods and the visit to “the top “is excellent not forgetting the Penang hill, temples. The three sister curry noodle is fantastic but need to be there before 12 - sells only in the morning. Also the Assam laska beside - must try! In the night, visit Kimberley rd for dinner / supper. Visited the wonder food museum with the children. Penang rd for teochew chendol. So my trip is eat, eat, eat and sightseeing!!!!!!
At Penang, it is all about FOOD. If you are a foodie, you should explore the local food there. Traveling around Penang is very affordable and it is great for a short budget trip
We stayed in the 2-bedroom Executive apartment on the 29th floor: The apartment was new, clean, modern, fitted with a fully functioning kitchen, a washer/dryer, three TVs (2 in each room, 1 in the common-area living room), and two bathrooms. Guests have access to the rooftop pool and gym as well. Apartment comes with free breakfast every morning. Hotel is conveniently located in Bukit Mertarjam, a short drive to Penang island and other attractions. Family-friendly hotel with reasonable prices and friendly staff. Highly recommended!
Batu Ferringhi
We enjoyed our weekend stay at the ParkRoyal Hotel Penang. I really enjoyed the location - it’s within walking distance to the beach and other local attractions. Lots of restaurants nearby serving different types of local and international food. My favourite things about this hotel is the breakfast buffet (delicious!) and the night swim at the pool (the environment and lights has an almost magical and dreamy vibe about it). ParkRoyal also surprised me with a birthday cake in my room. What a lovely gesture!
Kek Lok Si Temple is around 5-10 min walking distance. Penang Hill is 15-20min walk. Easy to find local food around. The Ayer Itam market is just around the corner. You can find famous Sister's curry me at the market in the morning, the famous duck rice at Kedai Kopi Ju Huat for dinner. Laksa is also around the same area for lunch. Hotel serve nice char kuey teow and other breakfast too. We reach hotel early, the staff allowed us to checked in early. Room is clean and tidy.
Really amazing looking room, everything was spotless. Amazing facilities, such as a really nice pool and a decent gym. Hotel staff was welcoming and accommodating, they are more than happy to provide any type of information you are seeking, great for first time visitors to Penang. Location is convenient, walking to distance to essential destinations with some really nice food nearby. There is a big hawker right downstairs, big plus for those looking for a late night munch.
Tanjung Bungah
I did not like the property. The hotel itself is old and needs updating..lifts, plumbing (brown water, yuck!) and room furniture. Hotel does not have an airport shuttle, and Grab drivers would not come to me early AM, so I missed my flight off Penang. The property is overpriced for dirty room and unhelpful staff. I’ve stayed in rooms that cost half as much in other parts of Malaysia and were twice as good! Disgraceful this is on booking.com.
The hotel is strategically located at Penang Old town, accessible parking spots, good for tourists who wish to make the most out of Penang trip in limited time. Friendly staff, although only 1 of them is professionally trained, the rest of the staff are very new and not professionally trained for the hospitalism industry. Nice japanese toilet (one of the reasons my fiancee and guests chose this hotel as we are used to having one at home)
First impression was the super helpful and staffs that are so generous with their smiles and greetings, we were greeted every time we entered the lobby and that is unfortunately something we don’t get often at other hotels. Parking is a bit tough but expected given the location. Hotel is super beautiful and cozy, it feels exactly how Penang Island should feel like. Trust the pictures given, they did not lie. We are definitely coming back.
The hotel room was so pretty and fancy, really clean every day. The staff was nice and helpful, if it rains you can ask an umbrella at the counter. There is a super market and a hawker center around the corner. All sight seeing points are whithin walking distance and you can also take a grab if you want to go a little bit further like Penang Hill. Take a cooling dive in the nice view swimming pool on top of the building!
Have travelled to Penang every year and each time have stayed at a different hotel. The Modern Hotel is great on all accounts and I'd be happy to stay there next year. It's really classy and comfortable- like a baby Eastern and Oriental, but better value. It has a touch of class and style lacking in not so good hotels for the same money. The staff are excellent and go above and beyond in all they do.
The counter staff who went to check the room cheated, when it was time to check out, he checked the room and changed the towels, saying he took them from the room I stayed in and said they were dirty. have to pay an additional RM31.80. have to be careful while staying at this Rate E-Red Hotel Bayu Mutiara, Bukit Mertajam, Penang. **Be careful, they are very clever and easy to deceive customers
Kepala Batas
- Very responsive and friendly hosts, they also have me a bicycle to cycle around rice fields in the morning and offered a nice breakfast with a huuuge kettle of coffee! - Opportunity to stay in a traditional Malaysian house and learn how locals live - Very safe for solo female travellers - Convenient location - relatively close to both Jerai and Penang; Grab also delivers food!
Savv Hotel is perfectly located in the heart of George Town. We easily could have spent three or four days exploring all that George Town and Penang have to offer. The room was cool and comfortable at night, had a strong wifi connection, and the staff were clear in communicating check-in and check-out procedures. We'd happily stay here again!
New apartment, easily accessible to town and bridge. Apartment is equipped with light kitchen and washing machine. Beds are clean and comfortable. Excellent sky view at Level 42. Beautiful sunrise overseeing Penang Bridge at Level 11 infinite pool & jacuzzi area. Double floor gym looks good though we have no time to use it this time.
Batu Ferringhi
All top rated! If you want to have a relax just go there and have a village life. Penang’s national park is very near to the house if u ride the bike Tony provided and all are nature around. It also provide rambutan and many other fruits. Tony is very warmhearted. I will back there next year if I go to Malaysia again.
Spent 3 nights in heritage wing room with balcony (premier king) in excellent condition and very comfortable, great pool, excellent breakfast at palm court and sarkies, excellent dinner one night at palm court. Easy walking distance to sights in Penang. Used grab to go to penang hill and kek lok si temple.
Batu Ferringhi
I sampai di hotel jam 1350pm.. Staff ambik details & deposit then terus bagi kunci untuk check in walaupun belum masa check in jadi xperlu tunggu lama. Facilities & food for breakfast also very good, I give 10⭐/ 10⭐. In future will come again. Tq Shangri La Hotel Penang❤
Bagan Jermal
Good location near Tesco and many other shops/restaurants, yet easy to drive to key attractions such as Batu Feringghi beach, Komtar and Penang Hill Apartment block looks new, not crowded when we were there. Fully equipped with iron, washing machine, dryer, detergent, towels.
Clean, good location very near event that we were attending. Hotel has a beautiful view & ambience. Friendly staff “Khai” thank you for the smooth check in. Attending to all our queries for location for good food. Recommendation for delicious food to go for in Penang.Kudos!!
The location was chosen for 1 night as close to the airport and we had an early morning flight. Beautiful balcony, lovely and clean and an amazing pool. The best pool on our Malaysia trip. The views were amazing. Visit the Penang War museum next door. Very interesting.
Batu Ferringhi
- Swimming pool. - Much better and cleaner than Bayview Hotel In Georgetown Penang which was too filthy. - Much suitable for leisure time of tourists. - The breakfast was much better and more diversified than Bayview Hotel In Georgetown Penang.
