FAQs about hotels in Pisa

Look Beyond the Leaning Tower

If you are in Pisa then the first stop is probably to snap a memorable picture of the famous Leaning Tower. Arrive early and you just might get a chance for a solo shoot! Go beyond this legendary experience and discover a maze of ancient cathedrals, buildings and squares in this historic town.

From the Pisa Centrale Train Station, the 30-minute walk to the Campo dei Miracoli is along a pedestrianised street packed with shops and restaurants. If you head outside the touristy area you will start to uncover the atmosphere created from the some 60,000 students who study here.

Appreciate masterful art at Museo di San Matteo and Romanesque architecture at the San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno, San Michele in Borgo and San Paolo Churches. If your feet are tired, then hop on and off one of the site-seeing buses to get a different look at the the Piazza dei Miracoli or Cathedral of St. Ranieri.

Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport is the gate to Tuscany and from here Florence, Siena and San Gimignano are easily accessed by bus or train. No matter whether Pisa is the final destination or you’re just passing through, Boooking.com can offer you over 90 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in this Italian city.

The trip to the Tower was excellent once we got in. Unfortunately the booking came through late though - made through Viator via Booking.com. So take care if doing this. I would go direct to the main website another time. Pisa itself was fairly quiet - went in April. Very pleasant.

Pisa is an interesting city in itself, besides being a good centre for visiting Lucca and probably Florence (avoid much of the crowds!). It is flat, as is Lucca, so good for those who want to go to Italy but find climbing up and down hills hard work (Siena/Perugia). You need good shoes to walk around Italian cities because the paving is authenticallly rough and uneven. I would certainly invest in a good map of the city, rehterht an the one provided generously by the Tourist Office.

I visited Pisa as an add on to 3 days in Florence as my flight landed in Pisa from Luton. I therefore booked to stay for a 2 night stay which only really gave me one full day in Pisa. This was just right for the leaning Tower and the buildings of the Miracoli Square including 2 museums, the Bapistry, the Duomo and the compasanto. The Duomo is stunning and the hilight but the leaning tower is a memerising sight. I managed to spend a good 5 hours there including lunch on the terrace at the museum and a timed climb up the tower booked for later in the day. (you have to book a timed slot to climb) With hindsight i did regret not having at least one more full day in Pisa as i would have liked to have seen the rest of the city including the Botanical Gardens which was shut during my visit. Please be aware that it gets busy so it may be worth booking the leaning tower climb online before you go.

To be honest, there is not a huge amount to view in Pisa as a tourist. Compared to Florence and Siena it feels more like a 'proper' town rather than a tourist-trap. That's not to say it isn't worth a visit; it is! The Leaning Tower is so famous it is a must-see if you are in the area. The Duomo and associated attractions are also very special for their architecture and are worth a view (in my opinion). Pisa airport is close to the city and cheaper to fly in to from London (and less busy) than flying to other Tuscan destinations, so I recommend it. The train from the airport to the city is easy and costs about €7 but if you are more than one person take a taxi, which should work out cheaper! Also, we booked a train ticket from Pisa to Florence in advance... big mistake. There was no need to book and buying local was simple and cheap; just €8 per person. It takes an hour on the train (if you chose carefully) and if you think that the Airport to Pisa train takes 5 minutes and costs a similar amount, then one of them is good value and one isn't! I'll let you work out, which-is-which :-) We stayed in a small hotel (Amalfitana) close to the attractions which was adequate, not great, but had a brilliant restaurant attached named "La Corte di San Leonardo"... we loved the food here so try it out, even if you do not stay at the hotel. Don't stay too long... unless you use Pisa as a base to travel out to other towns, there's not much to do.

We used this B&B because of its location near Pisa airport both on arriving and leaving Italy. We arrived at night after a late flight; the owner had already sent videos by WhatsApp of the location, how to enter the property, and what was inside, which was very useful. The apartment itself had what we needed for a short stopover, with food available in the shared kitchen. The milk, juice and fresh fruit was especially appreciated. We also sat in the garden in the morning to have breakfast.

Convenient stay in Pisa. Relatively close to station (10 minute walk) and leaning tower (20 minute walk) - if you want to take the bus make sure to download the atbus italy app and buy a digital ticket because there aren’t any physical outside the train station. Rooms were clean, though seemed a bit old in furnishing and dusty. Our train on the day of departure was at 3pm, and fortunately the hotel approved late checkout for 1.30pm. They also had a microwave which was great.

It’s 10/15 minute walk from Leaning tower. The room was very nice and the bathroom was the best we have experienced in Italy this holiday (6 different hotels) There were cold drinks in a fridge available to purchase at any time. The staff was very thoughtful, the hotel has an amazing location, really close to the pisa tower and the room was very comfortable. The breakfast was very good and the billing of the hotel is very beautiful.

The room was spacious enough for 3 people without any funky corners to make it tight unlike other properties in Italy we had been. Bed was comfy, easy check in and close to Pisa Tower and food spots.

it’s convenient to the airport. Lorenzo gave us very clear instructions as to location and how to access his apartment. The shower was the best we had in our week in Italy!
